Van Don Airport Now Accepting the Vietnam eVisa

Updated: 03:09 AM - 22 Nov,2024

Tourists can now enter and leave Vietnam through Quang Ninh’s Van Don Airport (VDO). The airport was added to the list of eVisa border gates of entry on April 27, 2022.

The addition of a new airport gives visitors with an electronic visa more options when traveling to Vietnam.

Vietnam’s eVisa system provides the most convenient way to apply for a visa. The application process is 100% online—travelers do not need to visit an embassy or consulate to apply.

With another international airport now accessible, the eVisa is an even more attractive option for overseas tourists.

Which Vietnam Airports Now Accept the eVisa?

The Vietnamese Government has taken the decision to add Von Don International Airport to the list of international border gates that allow foreigners to enter and exit Vietnam with an eVisa.

The move comes soon after COVID-19 restrictions were eased. International tourists are now being welcomed back with fewer restrictions since March 15, 2022.

List of Vietnam airports that accept the eVisa

The following list of eVisa borders are mentioned in Section 1, Article 2 of Resolution No. 79/NQ-CP dated May 25, 2020:

  1. Noi Bai International Airport (HAN), Ha Noi capital
  2. Tan Son Nhat International Airport (SGN), Ho Chi Minh city
  3. Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), Khanh Hoa province
  4. Da Nang International Airport (DAD), Da Nang city
  5. Cat Bi International Airport (HPH), Hai Phong city
  6. Can Tho International Airport (VCA), Can Tho city
  7. Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC), Kien Giang province
  8. Phu Bai International Airport (HUI), Thua Thien-Hue province

Von Don International Airport has now been added to this list, making it the 9th air border to accept the eVisa.

Information About Van Don International Airport

Van Don International Airport, also known as the Quang Ninh International Airport, is located in the Van Don District of Quang Ninh Province in Vietnam. The airport is around 50 km (31 miles) from Ha Long and 20 km (12 miles) from Cam Pha.

Construction of Van Don International Airport began in 2015 and it opened in 2018. It is the country’s first private airport.

Van Don Airport is now open and operational but construction is ongoing. The 3-phase project is expected to be completed by 2030. The airport will be able to handle 5 million passengers per year once all 3 phases are completed.

Easier Access to Ha Long Bay With an eVisa

The airport offers eVisa holders easier access to Ha Long Bay, one of Vietnam’s most important tourist destinations.

Travelers previously had to fly to Noi Bai International Airport in Hanoi followed by a 4-hour bus. Now, visitors to Ha Lang Bay can fly directly to Van Don International Airport followed by a short bus or taxi ride.

Other tourist destinations accessible from Van Don Airport

In addition to Ha Long Bay, tourists with an eVisa can fly to Van Don Airport to enjoy many other destinations in Quang Ninh Province. The area is known for its coastline and beaches. Places to visit include:

  • Bai Tu Long Bay
  • Van Don Island
  • Quan Lan Island
  • Co To Island

Opening the airport to Vietnam eVisa passengers is expected to boost tourism. More international visitors are likely to encourage more visitors to opt for destinations in Quang Ninh province.

Traveling to Van Don International Airport with an eVisa

To travel to Van Don International Airport with an online visa, foreigners must be from an eligible country and meet all Vietnam’s eVisa requirements. Tourists from Australia, Canada, the United States, and several European countries can get the eVisa.

Applicants need to complete an online Vietnam eVisa application form with basic personal information, passport data, and travel details. Travelers receive their approved visas by email in around 4 to 6 business days.

The Vietnam eVisa and other travel documents are verified by border officials at Von Don International Airport.

Advantages of the eVisa at Van Don International Airport

Thanks to the extension of the eVisa to Van Don International Airport, travelers can enjoy all the benefits of the electronic system.

Advantages of the Vietnam eVisa include:

  • Simplified, online visa application
  • Fast and efficient visa processing
  • No appointment at the embassy
  • Faster border crossings

It will also be beneficial to the airport and the area, improving border management and promoting tourism.
